Aporo Road: Crafted Calm
Crafted with care from the foundations up, this coastal retreat is a complete reimagining.
Location: Aporo Rd, Tasman (New Zealand)
Completed: 2026
Highlights: Fine timber carpentry, bespoke brick.
A carefully reimagined home, bringing together reclaimed timber, natural finishes and thoughtful spaces for family living.
Stripped back to its original frame and extended by 75 square metres, this Aporo Road home was transformed through a thoughtful architectural renovation. Working alongside Magda Garbarczyk of Fineline Architecture, Nelson Builders brought together precise craftsmanship and carefully selected materials to create a home that feels calm, welcoming and connected to its surroundings.
Reclaimed rimu is woven throughout the home, adding warmth and character to the flooring and bespoke joinery. Salvaged from older buildings, the timber was carefully de-nailed, machined and finished by the team, giving valuable native material a lasting new purpose. Clay plaster, exterior clay brick and stainless steel benchtops complement the timber, creating a restrained palette with a subtle Japanese influence.
Close collaboration between the clients, architect, builders and specialist trades helped resolve the many custom details. The finished home balances open spaces for whānau gatherings with quieter places to retreat.
Aporo Road reflects the care that goes into a crafted home: thoughtful construction, enduring materials and spaces made to be enjoyed for generations.
“Bringing the reclaimed rimu and custom details together made this a really rewarding build. There’s a lot of care in this home, and it shows in the finished spaces.”
