Hill St (In Progress)

A truly thoughtful & unique architectural renovation.

Location: Richmond, Tasman (New Zealand)
Completed: ongoing
Highlights: Collaborative build, architectural yet economical

Nelson Builders is working closely with Fineline Architecture on this detailed architectural renovation, bringing together thoughtful design, precise construction, and a shared commitment to quality. From the earliest planning stages through to on-site execution, our team has focused on clear communication, smart solutions, and the level of craftsmanship that underpins every project we deliver.

The renovation carefully blends contemporary improvements with the character of the original home. Key design features include a new open-plan living area, upgraded exterior cladding, bespoke joinery both exterior and interior as well as enhanced natural light, each built to meet the architect’s intent and the client’s vision.

A standout aspect of this project is the thoughtful reuse of rimu timber salvaged from the original house. Rather than sending valuable material to landfill, the timber has been carefully deconstructed, cleaned, and repurposed into feature joinery, custom trim, window reveals, and flooring. This approach preserves the home’s history while reducing waste and giving the timber a new life within the renovated spaces.

Throughout the build, we’ve incorporated sustainable practices wherever possible. These include responsible material selection, efficient deconstruction methods, improved insulation systems, energy-conscious construction techniques, and careful waste management on site. Working alongside Fineline Architecture, we’re proud to deliver a renovation that not only looks exceptional but also supports long-term environmental performance.

With skilful craftsmanship and a collaborative approach, Nelson Builders is delivering a high-quality, enduring renovation that honours the original home while creating spaces built for the future.
